Southern California's coastal hidden gem, Manhattan Beach.
When visiting the beaches of Los Angeles, tourists usually flock to Santa Monica or Venice. For natives of Los Angeles, they know that Manhattan Beach is the perfect beach that has everything beautiful about southern Cali beaches, as well as being a cool, close-knit community, where many LA Kings and LA Lakers live.
Conveniently close to LAX in L.A.’s South Bay region, Manhattan Beach’s biggest draw is the sand, where the beach scene can sometimes look like a runway of models on the ultra-smooth sand.
The Strand at Manhattan Beach
The Strand is very popular with cyclists, runners, and casual walkers taking in the coastal beauty.
Just a couple of miles south is Hermosa Beach, with more great shops, hip bars and great dining options. Heading inland, Downtown Manhattan Beach is the center of the city, loaded with retail shops, as well as high-end boutiques.
There are also many popular casual and fine-dining restaurants. The Strand House, for example, offers unparalleled ocean views and boasts top-rated farm-to-table concept, and specialty cocktail menus. And the M.B. Post has a Michelin-starred chef. You can also find some cool low-key spots like the open-air pub and restaurant Simmzy’s, a beach favorite for a quick bite after a day shopping or beach fun.
Manhattan Beach Open - AVP professional beach volleyball
Home to the annual Manhattan Beach Open, the pro beach volleyball summer tournament, as well as The International Surf Festival every summer, where you'll see the hard bodies rule the beach and waves.
The Manhattan Beach Pier is located where Manhattan Beach Boulevard meets the Pacific Ocean. The 928-foot pier ends with the Roundhouse Aquarium (free admission). Inside, you'll find viewing pools and touch tanks for close encounters with starfish and other under water creatures.
Offering a relaxing stroll along L.A.’s most luxurious beachside homes, with the scenic Palos Verdes Peninsula just to the south.
Fun fact: Roundhouse was the location of the surf shop where Keanu Reeves’ character in Point Break bought his surfboard.
Take in the sun while watching locals play volleyball or watch the sunset as you stroll along the pier.
